Spiritual Parenting

Jesus at the Center

“I want my child (or grandchild) to know God but the truth is my faith isn’t so great and I feel totally unequipped to guide them spiritually.”

If you have ever thought this, you aren’t alone and we want to invite you to journey with us as we explore and discuss what it means to spiritually parent children toward a passionate faith in God.  Beginning on May 13th, our Pastors and some lay leaders of Harrisburg UMC will be reading Spiritual Parenting by Michelle Anthony and offering our reflections on our this blog.   If you would like to read the book along with us we encourage you to do so.  However, if you don’t have time to read a book we invite you to take a few minutes each week to read and respond on our Blog.  It is our prayer that in this reading and reflection we will know a more passionate experience of God’s love for us and be guided to nurture the same in our children and grandchildren.

Our first post will be next Monday (May 13th) focused on Chapter 1 of the book: “In the Path of the Divine – Beyond Managing Behavior”

Summary of Spiritual Parenting:

“It’s hard enough to train kids to behave, but good behavior isn’t what Jesus calls for in the Bible.  God wants heart and souls that are shaped in vibrant faith and love toward Himself and others.  In Spiritual Parenting, Michelle Anthony calls us as parents to depend upon God for our children’s spiritual and moral development, urging us toward a heart posture of surrender and faithfulness.  The end goal is a vibrant faith that is passed on from one generation to another.”

Spiritual Parenting  by Michelle Anthony is available on Kindle ($8.54), Nook ($10.19), I-tunes ($11.99) or paperback (Amazon $12.56).
